Salinas boasts numerous health care services, specialized treatment centers and many private physicians representing nearly all medical specialties, as well as physical therapists, dentists and chiropractors. Also, if needed, more specialized treatment centers and university hospitals are just a two-hour drive away in San Francisco and at Stanford University.

For the elderly or those in need of long-term care, there are a number of nursing homes in Salinas, with a total of almost 500 beds. Independent living arrangements are also available.

Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital is a Public District Hospital which is part of the Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System. The healthcare system is an integrated network of health care programs, services and facilities situated near historic Old Town Salinas. At the core of the system is a 266-bed acute care hospital with several distinct specializations and programs. Specialized facilities and programs include the Regional Heart Program, the Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Sleep Disorders Center, an Emergency Department and a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). A 20-bed Level III NICU to care for the region's most critically ill infants, and an expanded Emergency Department to accommodate the area's growing population are both underway.

Salinas Valley Memorial employs more than 1,900 people and the Medical Staff includes 230 board-certified physicians across a range of specialties.

Natividad Medical Center Natividad Medical Center is a 172-bed acute care medical center owned and operated by Monterey County. A Board of Trustees appointed by the Board of Supervisors works with Administration on day-to-day operations of the medical center.

or women, children and families.

Affiliated with the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine since 1974, it is the only academic medical center on the
Central Coast and host to a nationally recognized Family Medicine Training Program, postgraduate training for physicians specializing in the board-certified specialty of Family Medicine. Faculty staff, a core medical staff and the residency program at the medical center affords Natividad patients 24 in-house physician coverage.

Modern, spacious and technologically advanced, Natividad is a premier community hospital offering acute care and outpatient specialty clinics.  The family medicine, women’s and pediatric clinics are operated by the Monterey County Health department. A new Urgent Care system established within the Emergency department has successfully reduced the wait time for patients requiring emergency treatment.

Natividad delivers over half of all newborns in Monterey County. A 15- bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was opened in 2005, affiliated with the University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine, offering the highest level of care for newborns.

Natividad’s Sam Karas Acute Rehabilitation Center is the only one in Monterey County. The Sally P Archer Child Advocacy Center includes the Bates Eldredge Child Sexual Abuse Screening Clinic is located on the Natividad Medical Center Campus and is also the only one of its kind in Monterey County
