Leadership Salinas Valley
Leadership Salinas Valley is a 20-week program that begins in February. The goal of the program is to identify and train potential community leaders and assist them in reaching their professional and personal goals. Participants gain the knowledge and direction they need to achieve greater self and community awareness through a combination of academic training, community exposure, small group interaction and team projects.
Leadership Salinas Valley is a project of the Salinas Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Foundation is governed by a seven-member board of directors comprised of a combination of Leadership Salinas Valley alumni and Chamber officers. Donations made to the Foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Leadership Salinas was founded in 1982 as a training program designed to involve more people in shaping the future of our community. In 1994, the Salinas Area Chamber Foundation announced the expansion of the program and renamed it Leadership Salinas Valley. This name change enabled an expansion of the program’s reach and opened the opportunity to others in our county to benefit from the leadership and skills training.
Today, over 600 hundred participants have graduated from the program and are active leaders in Salinas and the surrounding areas. Alumni have held such elected positions as mayor and city council member, served as board members for various schools, commissions, and organizations. In addition to the leadership roles which graduates play in our community, many worthwhile projects have been undertaken as a result of Leadership Salinas Valley. A leadership training program for youth, downtown clean-up projects, the Kiddie Kapers Parade, and numerous fund raisers for local non-profit organizations have all been headed up by Leadership Salinas Valley.
